Pressure injuries, also known as decubititus, are a result of pressure cutting off capillary circulation in the skin and sub-cutaneous layers. Pressure injuries are largely preventable and are considered Never Events by CMS (Medicare) and many other payers/carriers. The cost of remedy is non-reimbursable and borne by the facility.
